CARLY IS TOPS

Well done to Team member Carly Booth who not only won the Scottish Junior Champion of Champions but won it in real style!! Played over the fabulous Kingsbarns golf Course, Carly returned an amazing 5 under par 67 to take the crown by 5 clear shots. Carly's round began with five birdies in the first seven holes and with a total of eight throughout the round. She also had one bogey at the par three 2nd and a double bogey on 14th following a lost ball. When I spoke with Carly last night she was delighted with her performance and felt she had her confidence back following a lot of hard practice, practice which certainly has paid off. Well done Carly, a fantastic end to the season.

Perth and Kinross were well represented on the day with 3 of the 13 girls coming from our County. Team member Annabel Niven came a very credible 5th returning an 84. Annabel's round included a fantastic eagle three at the long par 5 12th. Our third representative was Ailie Burnett from Dunkeld and Birnam.

Well done all. 2nd place was Dawns Team with 31 and third place Dot's team with 32. Well done all who took part and sorry about the wee bit of rain at the end!

Following our game we all enjoyed a very nice lunch and some yummy cakes. We then asked our President Liz Miskimmin to present the prizes which had been won over the season. Our Scratch Champion Ailie Burnett closed the day with a vote of thanks to all who had helped and support the juniors throughout the year.

WELL DONE GIRLS

Following our match at Gleneagles our senior team lost to Stirling and Clackmannan 4-0 however I am very pleased to say that the Juniors had a much happier result with both matches going to P&K. The first team were Annabel Niven and Megan Aird who fought hard throughout their match and won by one hole. The girls were giving 7 shots and to play some great golf to win through. The second team were Aillie Burnett and Emily Aird who also won their match 2 up. The girls fought hard and were not daunted by the occasion.

The officials of President Liz Miskimmin, Vice Captain Lenore Kyle, Match Secretary Shona Leighton and Junior Assistant Pam Drysdale and myself were all impressed by the standard of play and the way in which all team members conducted themselves on the course.

Enjoy the slide show!!

Well done Girls you did us proud!

JUNIOR DAY AT STRATHMORE

We are delighted that 14 of you are making your way to Strathmore Golf Club on Sunday. That is a great response, so much so we have had to request more Tee Times!! Our Thanks go to Strathmore Golf Centre who are kindly providing courtesy of the course.

Each of you will be paired with a senior player for a fun greensome competition. We were hoping to pair each junior with a squad member but with more juniors wishing to take part than we actually have senior squad players we are drafting in some lower handicap P&K members to help out! Some of whom are past Team members. We hope you all enjoy your day and learn loads from your partner.

First Tee Time is 11am but make your way to Strathmore before that time to meet up with your 'Team Mate' before you go.

There will be prizes for scratch and handicap, so fingers crossed for some good weather on the day. I will post some photo's next week.

WELL DONE CARLY!!

What wonderful news came to me whilst playing golf in Tenerife!! The news being that P&K squad member Carly Booth had been selected for the Curtis Cup Team which will be played at St Andrews this year. Carly, at 15, becomes the youngest ever player to be selected for a GB&I Curtis Cup team. The previous youngest was Jane Connachan from Musselburgh when she made her debut at the age of 16 in 1980.

This is a fantastic honour for Carly and one which she is more than ready to accept. She has already been part of the Junior Ryder Cup team and playing against the United States will not intimidate our Carly at all in fact it will probably inspire her!

Carly's response when hearing the news was 'Awesome, Awesome, Awesome'!! We all send Carly our heart felt congratulations and look forward to seeing her at St. Andrews!

The team along with ages are below:
Liz Bennett (Brokenhurst Manor) 25, Carly Booth (Comrie) 15, Krystle Caithness (St Regulus) 19, Jodi Ewart (Catterick) 20, Breanne Loucks (Wrexham) 20, Florentyna Parker (Royal Birkdale) 18, Michele Thomson (McDonald Ellon) 19, Sally Watson (Elie & Earlsferry Ladies) 16.
Reserves:
1 Kerry Smith (Waterlooville) 36, 2 Sahra Hassan (Vale of Glamorgan) 20, 3 Rachel Jennings (Izaak Walton) 19, 4 Danielle McVeigh (Royal Co Down Ladies) 20.

Yesterday was the first of three Elite Girls training sessions at Gleneagles. Coaches John, Andrew and Brian had the eight girls working hard on their long game.

The photo's show the afternoon girls who consisted of Megan Aird, Emily Aird, Tricia Mennie and Lauren Marchbank. I appologise to the morning girls, Erin Millar, Allie Burnett, Laura Campbell and Caitlin Bartrop as I forgot to take my camera out! But dont worry we will catch you all next time!

All the girls enjoyed the session and we look forward to seeing them on the 9th of March for the next coaching session and also the Senior squad and Girls squad day at Strathmore on the 30th of March.
